Mission and Vision
The word translated as ‘gospel’ in the New Testament is the Greek word ‘euangelion’. It literally means ‘the good announcement’ and most often referred to the announcement made to a city or a nation of what rule or kingdom they were now under. In ancient times whole cities would wait with bated breath for a messenger to bring word of the outcome of a battle. That news, of either victory or defeat, would spell life or death for that city. Imagine then the joy of those people when the messenger with the euangelion, the good announcement, the ‘gospel,’ arrived. It was literally the news that they had been delivered from death. No messenger in the ancient world arriving at a city with the euangelion ever brought advice; he brought news!

It is our experience as a leadership team at River City Church that not only does God reveal Himself to people through the proclamation of the good news about Jesus, but when people are then consistently taught the gospel as news rather than advice, there follows a great growth of thanksgiving and liberty in their lives. They discover that God’s grace (His enabling power to be whom He calls us to be in Christ) empowers us to live as children of a loving heavenly father, not employees working our way towards a heavenly promotion!
The peace and union this brings to a community of people is His Kingdom coming “on earth as it is in heaven”. Each local church then becomes a prophetic sign to the world around them that true life is only found through Jesus. Know God, know peace. No God, no peace!
